Why Choose Foster
Why Choose Foster
For John Foster, construction has always been about more than buildings. It’s about people, relationships, communication, and bringing a team together around a shared vision.
With more than 25 years of experience in construction, development, project management, and business operations, John brings a unique perspective to every Foster Construction project. His career has taken him through nearly every side of the construction process—from business ownership and field supervision to serving as an owner’s representative, general contractor, project manager, and senior operations executive.
Over the years, John has helped lead projects across healthcare, education, commercial development, retail, government, and nonprofit environments throughout California. His experience includes complex hospital and medical projects, major mechanical and infrastructure upgrades, commercial tenant improvements, ground-up development, renovations, and highly customized projects where collaboration and creative problem-solving are essential. His portfolio includes work for organizations such as Kaiser Permanente, Community Medical Centers, Fresno State, Fresno County Office of Education, and Valley Children’s Hospital.
Before launching Foster Construction, John spent nearly a decade helping lead operations for one of the Central Valley’s largest mechanical contractors. During that time, the company grew from approximately $14 million in annual revenue in 2016 to $65 million in 2024, while expanding its capabilities and taking on increasingly sophisticated healthcare, education, and commercial projects.
Earlier in his career, John managed construction and development for Hume Lake Christian Camps in California and Massachusetts and served as an owner’s representative and acting general contractor for a large Fresno commercial real estate portfolio. In that role, his responsibilities extended well beyond construction—working with prospective tenants, developing budgets and design concepts, coordinating plans and permits, negotiating contracts, building schedules, supervising construction, and ultimately turning an idea into a finished space.
That experience ultimately shaped the philosophy behind Foster Construction.
John founded Foster Construction to create the kind of construction company he believes clients deserve: experienced but approachable, professional without being corporate, and built around communication rather than bureaucracy. He believes the best projects happen when owners, designers, subcontractors, and builders work collaboratively from the beginning—and when problems are discussed openly and solved together.
Today, John remains personally involved in Foster Construction’s projects from the earliest conversations and budgeting through construction and closeout. Whether it’s a complex healthcare project, commercial renovation, unique retail environment, or a project that simply requires some creativity to figure out, he still enjoys the part of construction that first attracted him to the industry: working with good people to solve problems and build something everyone involved can be proud of.
Collaboration is our foundation. Construction is our craft.
